Hiking

Les 2 Alpes has 200km of hiking trails and it’s by far my favourite summer sport. The trails lead away from resort in every direction and you can take your pick from steep ascents to gentler tree-lined paths. If you fancy something short, there are paths the length of the resort on both sides of town that provide you with a different view and of course you can always climb higher…

One of the best trails takes you high above the town to the peak of the Pied Moutet. The path winds up the side of the mountain, ending with a scramble to the peak and unprecedented 360º views of the surrounding peaks. Click here to read more about Route 603.

At this altitude even a short walk can be a good workout and you don’t need to go far to work up a sweat. A lovely short walk takes you out past Lac Buisonniere and down to Cuculet if you fancy a challenging descent. Click here to read more about Route 608. Also at the northern end of town is the path to Moliere, which has a gentle gradient and fantastic views.

But the two classic trails are down to Venosc and up to Lac Lauvitel. Both paths are steep and you must ensure you take adequate water supplies and wear sturdy shoes, sunscreen and a hat. You’ll be rewarded with stunning views, a serious workout and a massive sense of achievement. If you’re not up for hiking the whole route in one go, you can take the télécabine down to Venosc or drive to the base of the path for Lac Lauvite, at La Danchere.

Serious hikers will love the challenge of the Two Lakes path which takes you round the back of the Venosc peak via Lac Lauvitel and Lac Muzelle. The hike takes about eight hours and starting on the Lauvitel side is easier than the Muzelle side. You can also join sections of the quintessential Tour of the Oisans, the GR54 at Venosc or Mizoen.
