Les 2 Alpes
Winter Season 2010/11 in Les 2 Alpes
27.11.2010 – 30.04.2011
Les 2 Alpes is often mistaken for Alpe d’Huez but, despite being just 45 minutes away, the resort and the pistes are very different. The shape of the mountain and the resort’s location in a short valley, 1650m above sea level dictate the layout and length of the pistes. Nestled between two ski areas, skiers and snowboarders can ride the smaller side of the mountain, the Pied Moutet, or the larger, glacial side.
On the larger side you can access pistes as high as 3600m and – with the steeper slopes lining the resort – this is where most beginners will aim to ski or snowboard by the end of their first week. In fact, two of the three runs into resort are Blacks so most visitors prefer to take the lifts down to town at the end of the first few days. Total beginners, don’t panic, there are Greens close to resort and those of intermediate level will love the selection of 45 Blues, 18 Reds and 14 Blacks.
The highest part of Les 2 Alpes is linked to the neighbouring freeride area of La Grave. This totally unpisted resort holds a mythical status for freeriders and offers incredible experiences for those who are prepared for the challenge. This unforgiving mountain, lined with trees and crevasses is best enjoyed with the aid of registered guide.
Freestyle is huge in Les 2 Alpes and our growing here Snow Park reflects this. Built to international competition standard, the Park grows every year, nurtured by it’s own team of professional shapers. The park has an olympic sized Super Pipe, rails, boxes, kickers and it’s own BBQ area, the Chill Zone. Last year it hosted the Belgian national competition and the Smithy’s Rail Jam.
You can download a copy of the resort’s piste map here but the best way to see if this is the resort for you is to check out Destination Oisan’s reports and videos live from Les 2 Alpes this winter.
