It’s been bitterly cold in the mountains for the past few days and today was no exception. But the grey skies cleared to reveal perfect snow, bright sunshine and possibly the best first day of the season… ever!

Here in the Oisans we’ve spent the past week watching the forecast, hoping for a bluebird on the first day of the season in Les 2 Alpes. Instead it was cold and windy, with only a couple of runs open but we still found groomed pistes and plenty of pow…

It’s so great to be back in France and I spent this morning on Les 2 Alpes’ glacier. There was plenty of snow, beautiful sunshine and the lift queues were much shorter than in the Summer. So if you’re a keen skier or snowboarder, make sure you remember to book your holiday here for half-term week 2011 and check out today’s video:
The 2010 Megavalanche is over and I had a great time filming and photographing the crazy event, widely considered to be the most extreme MTB race in the world. Check out my flickr page for more photos and here’s the video of yesterday’s final…
Filmed in Alpe d’Huez and Allemont this morning, the latest video from Destination Oisans brings you the speed and the snow of today’s Mega Ladies race. Hope you enjoy it…
This year’s freestyle ski and snowboard competition, the Kumi Yama, proved to be a showcase for some epic riding. The eventual winners of the amateur Slopestyle ski competition were Bopcrew, and Bomb Squad on snowboards. In the professional event the winners were Elvis Harsheim, Nicolas Vuigner and Markus Eder on skis, and Matthieu Crepel, Alluar Ricciardi and Arthur Longo. Longo is also a Deux Alpes local and competed at this year’s Olympic Games.
The prize for Best Trick on skis was won by Bapiste Collomb Patton and there were joint winners in the snowboard category: Johan Baisamy and Kazu Kokubo. In the Superpipe, the winners were Nivo Bijonsen on skis and Kazu Kokubo on snowboard. The photography prize, a trip to Japan and a huge goodie bag, was won by David Tchag.
The Mondial is over and it’s suddenly very quiet in Les 2 Alpes. Despite a few downpours and overcast skies, it was a great event and enjoyed by all, especially Brit MTB stars Sam Pilgrim and Grant Fielder, who chatted to me on Saturday afternoon. Watch this weekend’s video to get a taster of the event…
Stage 6 of the race started just outside Grenoble and took the cyclists 151.5km over mountainous terrain, ending with the ascent of Alpe d’Huez’s famous 21 bends. The pace of the cyclists was much slower as they steadily pedaled their way up the hill. We were hoping to film at the finish line in Alpe d’Huez but the police closed the local roads earlier than expected and – as we’d taken the single lane back road from Freney to La Garde – we stopped to film at Bend 16, La Garde.
