Let’s get this straight upfront… Bourg d’Oisans is not a ski resort. It’s a town. It’s a tourist destination in its own right during the summer but very quiet and cold in the winter.

So, if you’re looking for cheap accommodation and you’re not bothered about driving (or taking the bus) to the slopes, it’s a great place to stay. Depending on where you stay, you may even get a ride to the slopes thrown in!

Be warned though, clear days on the mountain are often cloudy in the valley and you may find it too quiet. However, some visitors do like to get away from the commercialism of the resorts and another benefit of staying in Bourg is that you can ski or snowboard in any of the resorts.

Alpe d’Heuz and Les 2 Alpes are 20-30 minutes by car. To avoid trying to find a parking space in the resorts, you can park and take the lifts from Huez for Alpe d’Huez and Mont de Lans or Venosc for Les 2 Alpes.
