Links

Below you’ll find links to other websites for businesses and services in Alpe d’Huez.

This isn’t an exhaustive list, it’s a list of the websites and businesses that I use. I believe small businesses should work together and support each other where possible, to promote the resort and ensure that visitors have the best experience.

Before you come…
The tourist office in Alpe d’Huez runs a good website, but unfortunately you won’t find all the pages in English. You can buy your liftpass online, check out the local webcam and start planning your routes using the resort’s piste maps.

Ski school with the Ecole de Ski Francais (ESF) can be booked online in English and you can organise a guide for your off-piste adventures by email.

Accommodation…
Most of the main British tour operators have accommodation in Alpe d’Huez so packages aren’t hard to find. However, there’s a definite trend towards independent travel and if you’d rather enjoy some peace and quiet or focus on your own holiday rather than what your Rep wants you to do, there are solid options here. The boys at Mountain Experience can organise self-catering accommodation or hotel stays, as well as lift passes, ski school, guides and transfers but promise not to get in your face! A more traditional approach is a stay at the English-run, independent Hotel Chamois or if you fancy self-catering in a luxury chalet on the edge of the Alpe d’Huez Grand Domaine, check out the magnificent self-catering chalet Le Villarais in Villard Reculas.

Nights out…
The biggest and longest-running bar in Alpe d’Huez is Smithy’s Tavern. The place heaves from 10pm so come earlier if you fancy a quiet drink or pop next door to tex-mex and burgers; while Lounge 21. Both venues also have restaurants: Smithy’s is famous for it’s large portions of tex-mex and burgers; while Lounge 21 has a more upmarket menu of local mountain dishes such as raclette and fondue, plus great meat, salads and fish.

Downstairs you’ll find Zoo Bar, a funky French bar with bilingual staff and a pool table.

Additional services…
In-resort English-speaking childcare is available through Snow Angel Nannies, which provides fully qualified nannies, day and/or evening.

As I said, this list is based on quality not quantity, so if you know of any companies or sites that are particularly good and think should be on the list, please don’t hesitate to email me.
